Return to The Artists of Myths...
Magdalena
Rangel is a visual artist who has been immersed
in the computer imaging medium for decades. She has created an extensive art
collection in many media in pursuit of her artistic exploration of the dynamic
nature of life itself.
Her
corporate life included her as Art Director for Starwave, a Paul Allen driven
enterprise exploring electronic visual media suitable for broadband (when
broadband was still not “a thing”). Among her projects at Starwave her CD-ROM, Peter
Gabriel: EVE, an interactive adventure in music and art, was awarded the
Milla D’Or Grand Prix, in Cannes. Before her extensive work at Starwave she created
visual media, from movie credits to logos for corporate clients including Paramount
Studios, Touchtone Pictures, Polygram Pictures, Virgin Records, etc. At her
firm, JumpAngel Design, she generates digital art and design for
websites, as well as dynamic on-line illustrations. In 2021 she published a
whimsical coloring book Young Heart Menagerie, through her imprint JumpAngel
Press.
She studied at the School of Visual Arts,
in NYC, Otis College of Art & Design, and has an MFA from UCLA Film School,
in Los Angeles. Magdalena has been a lecturer in the film department at the
UCLA Film School, and at UCLA Extension, and led animation workshops at the Los
Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Magdalena is this book’s Artistic Advisor
and its Art Designer. She previously collaborated with Carlos J. Rangel with
the cover and illustrations for his 2017 book, La Venezuela imposible:
Crónicas y reflexiones sobre democracia y libertad.
Her website is www.jumpangel.com
In Myths of our Humanity, Rangel's art illustrates the vignettes BOTTOM OF THE BARREL and IO RUMINATES. She is also the book's cover artist.
