THE ARTISTS OF MYTHS: ITAMAR MARTÍNEZ

Itamar Martínez

Itamar is a visual artist born in Caracas, Venezuela, living in England since 1980. His studies from an early age include prestigious art schools in his native country, at the University of Bucharest, for which he was awarded a scholarship by the governments of Rumania and of Venezuela, and at the Royal College of Art, in London, England. He was Chief of the Education Department and Assistant Chief for Fine Art Exhibit Coordination at the Museo de Bellas Artes in Caracas, Venezuela.

His early experimental work includes videos, visual poetry, mail art, as well as conceptual and performance art. Since 1980 he focuses exclusively on painting as the medium for his artistic vision. He has held multiple One-man shows in Caracas and London, as well as participated in curated Collective Exhibits in London, Berlin, Tokyo, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Madrid, Mexico, and New York City. IKEA has included his works as part of their prints for sale, with over 350,000 sold. His work is part of the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art, in New York, and of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, in Santo Domingo. A prolific producer of art, he says “Life is a labyrinth of works, only by them will you know me.”

Itamar manages his art studio and exhibition space, The Yellow Chair Gallery in Reading, U.K. where he resides.
